WORKSHOP, Q&A: The "Yoga for Me" Approach

Are you curious about how you can confidently adapt your teen yoga class to make it accessible and inclusive for SEN teens? In this interactive session I will encourage you to 'think outside the box', explore yoga games to bring FUN to the session, include ideas from participants, involve their personal assistants in the yoga class and have an opportunity to discuss adjusting the yoga lesson plan to the participants on that day.

All attendees to this session will receive a copy of Lisa's 'Yoga for Me' article published in Learning Disability Practice Journal May 2021.

This is a 30 minute presentation about suicide awareness and prevention. By the end of the talk you will know how to ask about suicide and what to do to support young people.  The talk is followed by a 30 minute yoga class for self care and compassion, helpful when supporting people who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide or self harm.

WORKSHOP: Yoga for Any Body

This workshop will explore the ways that yoga practices can support young peoples’ relationships and sex education (RSE). The key areas where it can have an impact include healthy relationships, consent, emotional intelligence and self-esteem. Yoga can act as a subtle and indirect toolkit to develop these more ‘experiential’ elements of RSE, as opposed to more factual understanding of, for example, STIs and contraception. There will be a mixture of practices and reflective discussion that should appeal to all audiences.

WORKSHOP + Q&A: Yoga for Neurodiversity

Mum and Daughter showcase; Olivia is 15 years old. She did her TeenYoga teacher training at the age of 13, and is also a TeenYoga ambassador. Olivia is passionate about yoga for neurodivergent people, especially teens, as she herself is autistic, and often works in partnership with her mum, Claire.  

 

Claire from YogaBright has been teaching yoga since 2005 and children & teens since 2010, taking the TeenYoga training alongside Olivia in 2019.  Claire delights in teaching in collaboration with her daughter, Olivia and loves to create yoga that is accessible for as diverse a population as possible.

DISCUSSION: Mental Health and Education Policy in Schools; Introducing Yoga as a Step Towards School-wide Policies in Mental Health.

Anna has been teaching in secondary schools in London for almost 10 years, and has seen first hand the impact of the mental health crisis in schools. This inspired Anna to train as a teen yoga teacher and Anna has spent the last 6 months trialling the use of teen yoga in school. Join Anna for a talk and discussion on the importance of mental health policies in education and an honest reflection on her implementation to date; successes, failures, challenges and next steps. 

The talk will be followed by Q&A and discussion on our next steps as individuals and as a group will support us all to succeed in implementing teen yoga as part of a wider mental health policy within schools.

WORKSHOP + Q&A: YOGA FOR YOUNG ATHLETES

What is yoga for sport?  Aimed at all levels, it incorporates breathing and mobilising techniques, sports specific dynamic sequences and static poses along wiht some relaxation.  The focus is to encourage breathing efficiency in sports performance, build strength and core stability and improve flexibility and balance. T he workshop will include a discussion about how a yoga for sports class is structured, a 45 minutes sample class and a Q&A session to finish.

​

WORKSHOP: MOTHERS DAY WITH THE YIN TRIBE

Suzy gives us a flavour of her successful in-person and online seasonal workshops. She showcases her Mothers' Day event with a teen, who shares her experience and answers questions about this style.  Yin Yoga is a slow paces style of yoga with asanas that are held for longer periods of time, which offers the most amazing benefits for young people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, exam pressure, school pressure and feel they have lost their spark.

​

Please create a comfortable environment, with pillows, blankets, a couple of blocks or thick hardback books (without the sleeve).
